CAMBIAMO ARIA 2023 Competition

Xanthoria parietina and Salix viminalis are two valuable allies for our lungs: a combined planting and lichen-colony approach to removing pollutants, especially particulate matter, from the air.

This project earned ITIS San Gregorio Magno first place overall in the first Cambiamo Aria competition promoted by the Campania Region and held at Teatro Viviani in Naples.

The study explored how basket willow can help remove airborne heavy metals and how lichens can perform a similar monitoring and purification role. The event was hosted by science communicator Vincenzo Schettini.
